Where have we been?

Well, in short, we sold all our stuff, moved to SW Florida, and upgraded our boat. We now own a 2005 Island Packet 370 on Charlotte Harbor. Having survived a full-on direct strike from Hurricane Ian, we are now about 6 months away from achieving our goal of becoming full time cruising sailors.

Maintenance & Cuban Sliders

Better late than never… in this episode we change our oil, replace our primary fuel filter, make some delicious Cuban sliders, and go for an awesome sail! We are also using this episode to officially mark the end of season 3. What is on the horizon for Season 4? Stay tuned to find out. Coming very soon-ish.

Our First Overnight Anchor

In this episode, we sail, we fix stuff, we catch our second fish ever (albeit another tiny one), we interview a freeloading butterfly, we anchor, we paddle board, we cook Chicago dogs, we stay at anchor overnight for the first time, we reflect on the adventure, and then we talk about hamster bacon. Awesome!

New (to us) Mainsail

This time around, we retrofit an excellent condition mainsail from a Sabre 34 to fit our boat. This involved removing and replacing all foot and luff hardware, numbers and logos, batten hardware, and telltales, as well as repairing any holes/tears we could find. It was a lot of hard work in the Texas heat but we were able to procure the sail inexpensively so it was a worthwhile effort. We then take our shiny new (to us) mainsail out for a spin.

Third

In this episode of Sailing svSomeday we finally get around to installing a set of mast gates to keep our mast slide stop from repeatedly falling out. Also, we find ourselves in another race. There is hardly any wind at all during this race, so we have to rely on our shiny new sail trimming skills to perfect our sail shape and hit the mark at just the right time. Fortunately we were able achieve both and have a favorable outcome.

The Stowaways

In this episode, we find a couple of stowaways on our boat. They didn’t have permission to come aboard, so we have to figure out a way to evict them. We employ the services of our friend Rob to help assist with one of these unsavory characters, and the other one, deciding that it is not worth the fight, effectively leaves on his own accord. With no more surprise visitors on board, we have a lovely sail and reflect on the events and how to prevent such occurrences in the future.

ASA 103 & 104

In this episode, we finally got around to taking the American Sailing Association 103/104 combo course. We give the run down of what is involved and what happened including malfunctioning equipment, barge collisions, heavy weather, and more! We are really proud to have this certification under our belts. If nothing else, it is assurance from a Coast Guard certified American Sailing Association instructor that we have not established any bad habits and that our sailing skills are worthy of taking the next step toward full time cruising.
